Today’s Mugshots is a guest post from Chase Connor, author of the JUST A DUMB SURFER DUDE trilogy, BETWEEN ENZO & THE UNIVERSE/THE WARMTH OF OUR CLOSEST STAR, POSSIBLY TEXAS, and A SURPLUS OF LIGHT/THE BEES AND OTHER WILD THINGS.
When Ace asked me to do a guest post for the Mugshots section of their website, I found myself in a dilemma. Thanks to the increased interest in coffee farming, roasting, and brewing, there seems to be an infinite number of coffees to choose from.
I also have to mention that Ace has already written posts about a few of my favorites—WTF Roast and Thieves’ Cant. So, while I couldn’t write about those particular coffees, it did help eliminate some contenders, making my process slightly easier.
Ultimately, I decided to go with a coffee that is roasted in my home state of Iowa. Ames, specifically. It’s from Windmill Coffee Roasters (Food & Wine’s Best Roaster in Iowa), a company that nurtures relationships with and supports coffee farmers, and does its best to nurture the community in which it is based. They try to keep things local no matter where their business takes them.
You can’t hate that.
Though I’ve never had a coffee from Windmill that I disliked, my absolute favorite is “Galaxy.” I tend to lean towards dark roasts more often than not, but this medium roast is divine. With notes of blackberry, cola, and jasmine (as well as chocolate, lemon, and cherry), many drinkers of this roast will tell you that the first flavor profile note they get is…Dr. Pepper!
If you’re a coffee lover, Galaxy from Windmill Coffee Roasters will quickly become a favorite staple in your coffee rotation. Obviously, when you drink it from a favorite mug, it’s even better. For example, the “Teabagging” mug that makes SAM and me giggle. One could also drink this coffee with the “Dead Inside” or “Chase Connor Books” mugs you can buy at the Chase Connor Books Merch Store!
I have no shame. But I have coffee.
